A Note from our Chairperson

In my role as Chair of Walkway Community Association it is my privilege to work with the Management Committee, staff and volunteers to help improve the quality of life of all residents in our community and others in East Belfast.

It is incumbent on me to recognise the sheer hard work, long hours and determination of the staff and volunteers. They have continued to earn the respect of our community and government bodies throughout all the challenges presented by transitioning from the old to the new community centre.

Despite the impact the Covid pandemic had on our community, it has been encouraging to see different groups reforming and returning to the centre after long absences.

I must thank our funders for their continued support without which it would be impossible to finance and deliver our full range of programmes.  Their continued financial support is an acknowledgement by the funding agencies of the important contribution Walkway’s programmes make to the lives of people within our community.

Looking to the future, I trust Walkway will continue to work with other community groups, local churches, and statutory organisations to address the challenges pressed on residents by ever-changing rules & regulations. Together, we have much to look forward to in the coming years.

I trust our staff, volunteers and users will enjoy the new building and the resources it offers. We want to encourage people to work together to make Walkway Community Centre the beating heart of our community.

Stephen McDonald
